In recent weeks, I’ve been reading ‘Masters of Doom’, which could be finished in a weekend but is alternated with ‘Final Fantasy VII’. It’s a fascinating book about ‘Doom”s parents, Romero and Carmack, but it doesn’t reveal much. The tone is different from other video game books that are just Wikipedia summaries. It’s a novel like ‘Console Wars’ and as captivating as the game. It covers its creators’ origins, how they founded the company, the video game world’s praise and fierce criticism from non-gamers, and the controversies over unfounded rumors about the protagonists or Germany’s strong accusations over ‘Wolfenstein 3D’s Nazi symbolism.

I doubt there’s an easy biography. Not Edgar Allan Poe. His brief life in the first half of the 19th century is blurred by myths, clichés, and adulterated, self-serving versions of key events. The work of Eduardo Caamaño in ‘Edgar Allan Poe. The definitive biography of the master of terror’ is commendable due to Poe’s greatness as a writer. Although it may not be the definitive biography, Caamaño’s work is comprehensive, engaging, and illuminates Poe’s complex character.

The book is well-written, quick to read, and full of references. The contextual paragraphs about Poe. In a biography, Caamaño delicately balances discussing the subject and their time. For me, it’s highly recommended. After reading it, here’s another suggestion for learning more about ‘The Raven’s author: Edgar Allan Poe. The delirious man from Baltimore by Roberto García-Álvarez is a talented biographer with a fresh style. He has also written a captivating work about Lovecraft, another dark literature genius. Touristification or tourismophobia might have been last summer’s debate. A debate about this sector’s costs and benefits. Essay ‘I was here and I remembered us’ addresses this issue. Feminist horror-like magical realism. ‘Carcoma’ follows a family of women who have suffered men’s abuse. Resentment for what they did and were allowed to do floods everything, and it shows on a cursed house’s walls and shadows.

Psychology books are usually definition manuals or self-help guides, but this one seems to be a mix. I started reading it because Mihaly created the flow theory, which has been popular in psychology and productivity for decades.

It all comes down to flow, or being “in the zone,” when you’re so absorbed in something that you don’t notice anything else. These moments make us happy, fulfilled, and satisfied. In the half I’ve read, he gives anthropological context for obvious things that bring flow (eating, being good at a sport, having a job that motivates you, sex, friendships, etc.). I hope he implements it in the rest of the book, or it won’t benefit me. César MuelaHan Kang, a recent Nobel Prize winner in literature, recounts the 1980 South Korean uprising atrocities in this book. This uprising in Gwangju ended in a massacre due to the government’s disproportionate response.

The author writes lyrically and poetically about this event, which is almost unknown to many despite its proximity in time, using seven characters to offer seven visions of it. Kang’s approach to this massacre puts us in each character’s shoes, bringing us closer to their confusion, fear, and pain. With a dry but never excessive tone, she writes horror with delicacy and feeling. The novel’s narrating can be difficult, but it doesn’t bore us. It introduces characters chronologically, including her in the last story.
