Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, was reportedly shot and murdered by Israeli soldiers in Beita while participating in a protest against Israeli settlements, according to the UN.

The 26-year-old lady, whose nationalities are Turkish and American, belonged to the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement (ISM).

According to Neta Golan, co-founder of the NGO, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was in Beita, close to Nablus, to participate in a weekly protest against the growth of Israeli settlements in the region. According to Rafidia Hospital, it was in this setting that she was shot in the head and died.

An ISM worker who saw the incident and asked to remain anonymous described it as a “shot to kill,” telling AFP that he saw “blood flowing from the victim’s head.”

According to the Israeli army, local soldiers “responded with gunfire toward the main instigator of the violence who threw stones at the (soldiers) and posed a threat to them.” The IDF is “looking into reports that a foreign national was killed as a result of gunfire in the area ,” it added.

The victim’s family demanded a “independent investigation” on Saturday and accused the Israeli army of killing the woman. With regret, they said, “Her presence in our lives was brutally, unjustly, and illegally taken away” by the armed forces of Israel.

“Aysenur was peacefully defending justice when she was killed by a bullet ,” she claimed, citing a video “showing that it (the bullet) came from an Israeli army sniper.”

The relatives demanded that “President (Joe) Biden and Vice President (Kamala) Harris and Secretary of State (Antony) Blinken order an independent investigation into the unjust murder of an American citizen and ensure that those responsible are fully held accountable,” believing that an Israeli investigation would not suffice.

The White House said that the United States, Israel’s principal friend, regretted the “tragic” young woman’s murder and demanded an inquiry. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, “We will act accordingly when we have more information.”

Aysenur Ezgi Eygi lost his life as a result of Israel’s “barbaric intervention” against a rally against the occupation in the West Bank, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
