(CNN) – The UK has issued Paddington Bear, the most famous Peruvian in fiction, a passport.
Rob Silva, co-producer of “Paddington in Peru,” revealed the British passport in a Monday Radio Times interview.
The third film in the hit series follows the little bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy.
“We wrote to the Home Office for a replica, and they gave Paddington an official passport. Only one exists,” Silva told journalist Laura Rutkowski, showing the passport with Paddington’s photo.
“You wouldn’t think the Interior Ministry had a sense of humour, but in their official comments they just label him Bear,” Silva said.
Michael Bond’s 1958 book “A Bear Called Paddington,” about an orphan bear’s journey from Peru to London, inspired the film.
He has a tag at Paddington Station saying “Please look after this bear.” Thanks, and the Browns take him in.
After receiving a passport, Paddington returns home to visit his Aunt Lucy (voiced by Imelda Staunton) in “Paddington in Peru”.
When he and his Brown family friends arrive, they find that their aunt has disappeared from the Home for Retired Bears, prompting a search deep in the Amazon rainforest.
Dougal Wilson, who directed “Paddington” and “Paddington 2,” said he was “incredibly apprehensive” about directing the third film.
One of the greatest films is Paddington 2. “I was scared and anxious,” he told Radio Times.
“I know how hard it is to follow up on the first two films, and a third is always difficult. I hope we don’t disappoint fans.”
“Paddington in Peru” will be released in the UK on November 8 and in the US on January 17, 2025.
Paddington Bear received a British passport 66 years after arriving in London, but he can’t travel far.
In Peru, Paddington filmmakers requested a passport for the Peruvian bear, a prop.
Co-producer Rob Silva told the Radio Times they received an official replica after requesting one.
The BBC was informed by the Home Office that it was a specimen document and cannot be used.
“You wouldn’t think the Home Office would have a sense of humour, but under official observations, they’ve just listed him as Bear,” he said.
Michael Bond, who created Paddington in 1958, said his childhood during World War Two inspired the beloved bear from “darkest Peru”.
“When I was small, I had memories of children being evacuated from London with a label around their necks and all their possessions in a suitcase, and this became part of Paddington as well,” he said to the BBC.
Paddington Bear was a refugee labeled ‘Please look after this bear. He had a small suitcase and said “Thank you.”
As a stowaway on a boat from South America, Paddington settles with the Brown family, who name him after the London train station where they found him.
Ben Whishaw voices the famous bear in Bond’s successful film series. November will bring the third Paddington film to Peru.
Paddington also had tea with Queen Elizabeth II during her Platinum Jubilee.
