Netflix outgrosses 'The Exorcist' as the top horror film.

It (which you can watch on Netflix, Prime Video, Max, and Movistar Plus+) established a very special record after it was released in 2017, becoming the highest-grossing horror film of all time at the box office. Andy Muschietti, who had previously directed “Mamá” and then sank into that dark hole that was “Flash,” signed here (and with the second chapter) his best film, exhibiting a mastery of tension, staging, and creating really extraordinary scary imagery. This film is his best work to date. This was made possible in a significant measure by Bill Skarsgård’s unforgettable performance as Pennywise, who quickly became one of the most famous and memorable monsters of the genre in this century.

In September 2013, Universal hired Muschietti to helm a revival of The Mummy franchise. However, Muschietti quit the project in May 2014 due to creative disagreements with Jon Spaihts’ draft of the script.[9] [9][10] [10]

Muschietti was hired by New Line Cinema in July 2015 to direct It, the two-part adaptation of the Stephen King novel. This came after Cary Joji Fukunaga had left the role of director. Barbara produced it, together with Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. The film was released in two chapters in 2017 and 2019.[11] [11]

Muschietti entered into negotiations in July 2019 to direct The Flash, a film that would be set in the DC Extended Universe. The screenplay for the film was written by Christina Hodson, and his sister Barbara was scheduled to act as a producer for the film itself. Muschetti was the fifth director to have been associated to The Flash. Prior to Muschetti’s involvement, Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein had all been attached to the film at various times in time.[12] [12] Muschietti announced in August 2019 that The Flash would be his next project, which will come after the publication of It Chapter Two.[13] [13]

Within the month of April 2021, Andy and Barbara Muschietti established their very own production company, which they named Double Dream. The Flash was the very first project that the company worked on.It is [14]

It was announced in June 2023 that Muschietti was the studio’s top candidate to helm The Brave and the Bold for the DC Universe because of his extensive experience in the field. After the Writers Guild of America strike in 2023 came to an end, Muschietti would not make a formal commitment to the picture until a script was written.[18] [18] Later in the month, it was reported that Muschietti would be joining the team.[19] [19] In the latter part of that month, he, Barbara, and their production business, Double Dream, secured first-look deals with Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television Group, and Max that were parallel and lasted for three years.[20] [20]
