The Republican presidential candidate for America played ABBA, which is not at all to the group’s liking, in an effort to win over Swedish-American voters.
MUSIC: We then turned off the sound. This Thursday, August 29, the record company of the legendary Swedish musical group ABBA made an announcement stating that it has requested that Donald Trump refrain from using its hits in his presidential campaign.
At least a few of the band’s songs were heard during the former Republican president’s campaign events, according to Sweden’s Universal Music. In an email correspondence with AFP, Universal Music AB stated, “We have requested that [these songs] be removed.”
“Universal Music Publishing AB and [record company] Polar Music International AB have not received any requests [to use these tracks], so no permission or license has been given to Trump ,” the business stated.
The Winner Takes it All, an ABBA hit, was played during a Trump rally in Minnesota on July 27, according to the Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet, where one of its journalists was present. Minnesota is home to a sizable Swedish community.
On a massive screen, a ten-minute vintage music video featuring ABBA performing some of their biggest singles, such as Money, Money, Money and Dancing Queen, was screened.
The Swedish trio ABBA, whose initials stand for Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni-Frid, defined disco until they decided to part ways in 1982.
Trump versus the Artists
Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones are among the other well-known musicians who have urged the Republican nominee to refrain from performing their songs while in campaign mode.
Furthermore, despite Beyoncé’s formal demand to stop using her song Freedom, Kamala Harris’s candidacy has strangely turned the song into an unofficial anthem, featuring heavily in her public appearances. And Beyoncé granted her all the rights for it.
