Deathtroopers’ unofficial game is the most appealing in the series.

This autonomous effort, which is relatively little but strong, combines two realms that we believed would be difficult to experience together.

Although it is true that for years the empty and silent settings of spacecraft and the endless unknown that is deep space have acclimated us to believe that the science fiction stories have a dark side, it is not very usual to reinvent the world of “Star Wars” as a horror picture. However, it is true that this is the case. In point of fact, elements of ‘Star Wars’ such as the Dark Side or its adversaries, who are frequently horrific and malformed, play with the terrifying point that every science fiction adventure possesses.

Nevertheless, “Deathtroopers” is a game that pushes the envelope in this regard. The game’s creator, Stefano Cagnani, begins with a book written by Joe Schreiber, which serves to remind us that, in terms of literature, there have been more attempts into the space horror genre of “Star Wars,” such as the youth series “Galaxy of Fear.” The video game that is based on this novel that was published in 2009 features two episodes, both of which may be downloaded for free from the website itch.io.

In the first of them, we were a Stormtrooper who was navigating the Death Star while confronting waves of undead stormtroopers. Additionally, there was an appearance of a well-known antagonist from the franchise who was entirely transformed into a zombie. In this new chapter, titled

“The Outpost,” we find ourselves on the moon of Endor, where we are tasked with locating an old Rebel base that has been abandoned. Additionally, we will come across a variety of familiar species of the planet’s fauna.

It should come as no surprise that the game mechanics are quite straightforward, given the minimal nature of the project (which, on the other hand, utilizes Unreal 5 as its engine). The game consists of third-person shooting that involves eliminating waves of zombie troops simultaneously.

The end result, on the other hand, is powerful and mysterious, and it contains highly valuable atmospheric discoveries. It is unfortunate that, in contrast to the era in which the original book was published, when the Expanded Universe was just beginning to take shape, it is inconceivable that there would be other stories just like this one in an official video game.

It was probably while I was going around the Haunted Hovel in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga that I came the closest to becoming afraid in a Star Wars game. However, even when I did that, the most unsettling thing that happened was a brief encounter with the odd C-P30 doppelganger Nobot. The Star Wars franchise has never been known for being particularly terrifying; yet, after playing a brief demo for Deathtroopers on itch.io, I am sure that this is something that needs to be changed.

On itch.io, you may purchase Deathtroopers, a short survival zombie horror game developed by Stefano Cagnani, for any price you choose to pay depending on your preferences. The scenario is set with a brief cutscene at the beginning of the game, during which you report back to headquarters that you have finally located the Star Destroyer, which has been dark for some time now. Because the Stormtrooper is unable to hear the terrible and otherworldly music that is getting louder as they draw closer, I am certain that they would not have landed on this derelict ship if they were able to hear it.

There is no doubt that this location is eerie, as seen by the blood that has been splashed across the walls and the remnants of other Stormtroopers that have been ripped up and spread around the flooring. However, all you can do is investigate a section of this ship in a helpless manner in an attempt to locate a survivor or to figure out what might have occurred here.

I don’t have a lot of courage when it comes to trying out different horror games. Due to the fact that I had been trapped in the same supply closet for more than a decade in Amnesia: The Dark Descent and that I have hidden in a number of barrels in The Outlast Trials, I found that going through the bloody hallways of this Destroyer was more than enough to fill me with adrenaline.

When it came down to it, the actual survival portion of this horror game didn’t last for a very long time. As soon as you come across a single Stormtrooper who is standing motionless in a corridor, the action begins to pick up speed. You are then confined to a limited portion of the ship, and you are tasked with eliminating waves of zombie Stormtroopers. Your main purpose is to stay alive for a period of four minutes.

In reality, this portion was not all that terrifying. I was able to effortlessly retain many foes in my line of sight because to the third-person over-the-shoulder perspective, and the waves did not intimidate me in any way. Indeed, a good number of zombies became trapped on one of the doors that was only partially closed. They weren’t causing any harm to anyone, so I just left them alone.

However, after surviving the prescribed amount of time, everything ended in complete darkness. At first, I was not really concerned because I believed that the demo had come to a conclusion; however, when another cutscene began to play, I became apprehensive.

This time, I stood as swarms of zombies lurched towards me, and I stared helplessly as they approached. I had already come to terms with the fact that I would die, and then, as if to add insult to injury, a door opened behind me, and here came the zombie version of Darth Vader.

It would be impossible for a Stormtrooper to defeat the Sith Lord on a good day, and I do not believe that incorporating the undead into the circumstance would make the fight any simpler. However, I was unable to put this theory to the test since, not long after he entered the room, I was severed in half and strung up like a sick kind of office decoration.

It is a surprisingly enjoyable short experience, despite the fact that Deathtroopers is not a horror game masterclass (the voice acting for the artificial intelligence is rather terrible). The concept is impressive, and despite the fact that the game is finished in a short amount of time, it has convinced me that the peculiar idea of a Star Wars horror game has a lot of potential.
