A youth movement is emerging

The group promotes “the revolutionary spirit of patriotic youth”

The front line of a hundreds-person demonstration in front of the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz (Madrid) was tense all afternoon yesterday. The goal was to protest the amnesty and political agreements of acting president Pedro Sánchez with pro-independence parties to secure the investiture. Nighttime protests escalated until the police broke it up by charging the protesters. Running back and forth, shouting at officers—it was heated. And memes remain.

Vox party leader Santiago Abascal attended. Also surprising was the number of young people at the rally. A social media campaign demonstration group was the most notable, especially for their organization. They carried a burgundy ‘Revolt’ flag.

What’s revolt? A mysterious message appeared on X (formerly Twitter) at the end of September: “Stay tuned. Expect #Revolt news soon.” A few days later, it chartered buses to Barcelona’s October 8 anti-amnesty protest and sold t-shirts. Its five “likes” on its first message quickly became a well-organized army of supporters who supported protests across Spain this weekend, including Ferraz. “A right-wing 15-M,” some say.

It calls itself “a youth movement that seeks to feed the revolutionary spirit of patriotic youth.” They state, “At Revuelta we support all protest initiatives against everything that is unjust.” A catch exists. The party’s digital marketing manager, Pablo González Gasca, and Sentmenat (Barcelona) councilor Santi Acosta and Salou councilor Paul Daniel Axinte are among Vox’s social media users.

Behind it, who? The Revuelta privacy policy states that Plataforma 711 manages data and intellectual property. Its what? Formerly an online cap store “for a group of twenty-somethings to promote patriotism.” It is now a student group with ties to Vox and was prevented from presenting at the Complutense University of Madrid with the slogan “for the cultural reconquest.” Vox appealed the institution’s decision administratively after Javier Ortega Smith sponsored the event.

In an interview with La Gaceta de la Iberosfera, its leader, Jesús de Blas, stated that they had discussed the project with the PP, but they did not proceed. Vox is the only party to have endorsed the project. Although they welcome outside support. They use similar hashtags and slogans on social media: “Permanent, constant and growing mobilization.”

They represent what? In their founding manifesto, they reject “wokeism and globalism, with their individualism, progressive impositions, and omnipresent market forces, and Marxism.” Again, no political party is mentioned. They also call the EU “anti-European” and “promoting massive and uncontrolled immigration to our continent, which will lead to a Europe in which Europeans will lose control of their own nations.”

“Today, we are faced with a kind of dictatorship of ugliness that is reflected in the way our cities and urban spaces are configured.” Religious issues, such as promoting Christian values and “the reconquest.” It is named 711 because “that fateful year in which the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula by Islam took place.”

How are they funded? On their website, they sell 20-euro t-shirts and accept donations. At their big annual event Viva22, Vox collected data from supporters and members and warned that it could give it to Denaes (Defence of the Spanish Nation) or Plataforma 711, that is, that it promoted the transfer between its electorate and the youth movement. It is unclear if they receive funding from major political parties.

How does Vox benefit and suffer? Vox avoids legal and administrative issues by letting a youth association call for these protests. These would directly affect it because the Law Regulating the Right of Assembly requires those calling for them to announce their celebration 10 days in advance. However, social media activity attracts the young.

During a demonstration, the association supported values that conflict with Vox’s ideology, including criticism of the King (“Felipe, mason, defend your nation” or “Felpudo”), Austrian and German extreme right slogans like “reimmigration” and fascist symbols.
