Everything we know about 'Alien Romulus

When the premiere of Alien: Romulus takes place on August 16, this summer, xenomorphs will be bursting out of chests and into theaters. It is the most recent installment in the series, which began with Ridley Scott’s science fiction horror blockbuster Alien, which was released in 1979. Featuring a rising talent in the lead role and a director who is entirely new to the genre, Alien: Romulus appears to have the potential to be a horror blockbuster that has the potential to be released in the late summer. This is everything that we know about the Romulus race of Alien.

While Ridley Scott was the director of the first Alien film as well as the two most recent installments in the Alien franchise, Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017), he is now providing Romulus with the opportunity to take over the director’s chair. Of course, this is not the first time that another director has served as the director of an Alien film. The first sequel, Aliens, was directed by James Cameron, while David Fincher handled Alien 3, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, a French filmmaker, had the responsibility of directing Alien: Resurrection. Scott, on the other hand, did not participate in the production of those three sequels, nor did he take part in the production of the two Predator crossover pictures. Scott is participating in the production of Alien: Romulus in the capacity of a producer, which means that he is a part of the production even though someone else is directing it.

Fede Álvarez, a director hailing from Uruguay, is the one responsible for directing Alien: Romulus. He is rapidly becoming a prominent figure in the realm of horror films. Álvarez is well-known for his work as a director and co-writer on the film Evil Dead, which was released in 2013 and starring Jane Levy. The film was terribly, horrifyingly bloody and shocking. Additionally, he directed the Certified Fresh thriller Don’t Breathe, which was released in 2016, and tells the story of a bunch of home invaders who break into the house of an elderly blind man, only to have the tables turned on them. He also contributed to the writing of the sequel, but he did not direct it.

Together with Rodo Sayagues, who was Álvarez’s writing partner for Evil Dead and the Don’t Breathe movie, Álvarez collaborated on the writing of Alien: Romulus.

The most prominent member of the cast roster for Alien: Romulus is Cailee Spaeny, who plays Rain Carradine, a teenage space colonist who accepts a dangerous job scavenging a space station that has been abandoned. With recent roles in films such as Alex Garland’s Civil War, in which he co-starred with Kirsten Dunst, and Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, in which she played the titular character, Spaeny is currently considered to be one of the most promising emerging stars of the moment. Pacific Rim Uprising, which was released in 2018, was Spaeny’s first feature.

Andy is the name of the character that David Jonsson portrays. Jonsson began his career on the stage in London’s West End; however, viewers of television and film may recognize him from his main part in the HBO series Industry and as the co-lead in the Hulu romantic comedy Rye Lane, which received critical acclaim the previous year. A character named Tyler is portrayed by the English actor Archie Renaux, who is best known for his major part in the young adult series Shadow and Bone, which is available on Netflix. In addition to her most recent appearance in Madame Web, Isabela Merced has previously been in films such as Transformers: The Last Knight and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She now plays the role of Kay.

In addition, Merced portrayed the role of Dora the Explorer in the live-action adaptation of Dora and the Lost City of Gold. She also starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom 100 Things to Do Before High School. Bjorn is played by Spike Fearn, who is best known for his part in the British teen drama Tell Me Everything and who most recently appeared in the biopic Back to Black, which is based on the life of Amy Winehouse. The Navarro character is played by Aileen Wu, who is making her debut in a significant part for the first time.

A significant amount of secrecy is being maintained around the storyline of Alien: Romulus. According to Variety, the plot of the movie would revolve around “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” It has been revealed by Spaeny that the film takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens. In terms of the timeline, this is roughly in the middle, as Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are prequels that take place before Alien, and Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection are sequels that follow Aliens in continuity.

There is a lack of clarity regarding the degree of direct link that Romulus will have to the previous films. Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character from the original films is in suspended animation throughout the time period in which Romulus takes place. Additionally, whatever machinations Michael Fassbender’s android David went through in the prequel films may or may not be relevant to the events that take place in Romulus. The fact that it is going to be a genuine horror film that returns to the origins of the series is something that comes across as obvious.

To a certain extent, each and every one of the Alien flicks is a horror film; yet, the most of them have also had other objectives in mind. However, Aliens was an action masterpiece just as much as it was a scary movie (if not more so), and the latter sequels and prequels were more similar to academic science fiction with a lot of backstory surrounding the horrors. Alien was a true science fiction horror film. Fede Álvarez is the director of Alien: Romulus, and judging by the tone of the trailers (which will be discussed further in a moment), it appears that the major objective of the film is to generate fear in its audience. Although no one will be able to hear your scream in space, they will most certainly be able to hear it at a crowded movie theater in the month of August.
