Flags raised at Trump's inauguration despite Jimmy Carter's death.

Despite the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, American flags will not be flying at half-mast at Monday’s inauguration of Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, January 14, House Speaker Mike Johnson declared that, in defiance of Joe Biden’s executive order to commemorate the memory of former President Jimmy Carter, American flags will be flying high at the Capitol during the inauguration of new President Donald Trump.

In remembrance of the 39th president of the United States, who passed away on December 29, the directive mandated that flags on federal buildings be flown at half-staff for 30 days, until early February.

The following day, the flags were lowered to half-mast.
Thus, in theory, January 20, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, was included in the time frame. In his criticism of Joe Biden’s choice, the latter charged that Democrats had allowed themselves to be “turned” following Jimmy Carter’s passing.

The American flags flying over the Congress building were raised to their customary height in order to “salute the unity of our country around the inauguration” of Donald Trump, according to a statement released by Republican Mike Johnson.

When a current or previous head of state passed away in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower issued an executive order mandating that flags be flown at half-staff for 30 days.

The majority of American states have chosen to lower the flags on their own public buildings to half-mast, even though Joe Biden’s statement only technically applies to federal structures.

On the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott deviated from the custom on Monday by directing that flags be flown high.

“While we honour a former head of state, we must also celebrate the arrival of a new president and the bright future that lies ahead for the United States,” the governor stated in a statement.
