A more crowded Access that draws more viewers

After more than two months, ‘La revuelta‘ on TVE has surprised even those who predicted its arrival like an elephant in the Access china shop was a mirage. On one hand, ‘El hormiguero’ maintains its lead, but most days it must concede to Broncano in the time slot when both are exact. Conversely, this programming area has been revitalized, impacting surrounding programs.

Scarce times. ‘La revuelta’ pulled some viewers from ‘El Hormiguero”s programs when it entered Access. As we said at the time, Broncano’s program seemed to steal viewers from ‘El intermedio’ and ‘First Dates’ in its first weeks. It was especially logical for ‘El intermedio’ because La Sexta’s version seems most ideologically similar to ‘La revuelta’. Or, a viewer of ‘El intermedio‘ may be tempted to watch ‘La revuelta’ every night but not ‘El hormiguero’.

‘El intermedio’ returns. After each one has made its way (with elbows, of course) to its time slot and the battle dust settles, the programs shine again. For instance, ‘El intermedio’ had its most watched episode of the year on day 13 with a 7.8% share and over a million viewers, and repeated the same figure the next day, suggesting a long-term success. ‘First Dates’ follows with 7.2%, rising to 7.7% the next day. Thus, successful programs succeed again, but always in the background before ‘La revuelta’ and ‘El hormiguero’ clash.

The odd case of ‘Cifras y letras’ Another oddball program in this time slot is ‘Cifras y letras’, which has the best ratings of this renewed stage despite its niche nature. At 5%, La 2’s cultural contest had its best result ever on November 14.

Aitor Albizua’s show has improved since ‘La revuelta’ arrived, almost like a metaphorical declaration of intent. Season 1 had a 3.4% share before the summer, but it has steadily risen, reaching 5.6 on 16 October. It’s comparable to Telecinco’s 6% Big Brother summaries miscalculations in October.

Enhanced Access Prime Time. The conflict between ‘La revuelta’ and ‘El hormiguero’ has had an unprecedented effect: Access Prime Time has been extended, becoming the new Prime Time, except for Telecinco, which does not have weapons to fight in its time slot and reserves a more or less conventional time slot for its star programs.

Most of the day’s most watched programs are in that time slot, so what’s discussed the next day is there, and Prime Time is delayed. Some days, ‘El hormiguero’ ends at 11:30 p.m., delaying Prime Time and disintegrating late night.

Our future. If you’re not a Broncano or Motos fan, going to bed before 12 is nearly impossible, but La 1 tries: on Mondays, ‘La revuelta’ and ‘Las abogadodas’ end around midnight. This is an exception: the Access slot has swallowed the rest of the programming, which is inconvenient if you want variety.

Things can get worse: Mediaset announced today that Santi Millán will return to ‘Caiga quien caer‘ without a date or time. Does it dare put it on Access? What time will ‘Big Brother’ debates end?
